There are hotels you leave with the feeling of having simply slept somewhere. And then there are the ones you're still talking about a week later, coming back to a precise detail, a gesture from the staff, a scent in the lobby. The Langham Hong Kong clearly belongs to the second category.
We spent two nights at 8 Peking Road, right in the heart of Tsim Sha Tsui, in a Premier Room with a large king-size bed. Two short, dense nights that left a rare impression on me. That of a European-style palace set in the middle of Kowloon, one that still manages to feel warm. Here is our honest review, what we loved, and why we'd go back without a second thought.
01The location: Tsim Sha Tsui on your doorstep
The Langham sits on Peking Road, a two-minute walk from the Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station. It's probably one of the most strategic locations in Kowloon. You step out of the hotel, cross one street, and you're straight inside Harbour City, the giant shopping mall that lines the waterfront.
Victoria Harbour is a five-minute walk away. The famous Clock Tower and the Star Ferry, which links Kowloon to Hong Kong Island for a few dollars, are right there. For us, that's the unbeatable geographical argument: you can explore the whole city without ever bothering with long-distance transport.
The neighbourhood itself is worth the detour. Luxury boutiques on Canton Road, night markets a little further north towards Temple Street, and the waterfront promenade with its legendary view of the skyline. You sleep in the hushed calm of the hotel, and the city is just a few steps away.
Our detailed review of The Langham Hong Kong, a five-star palace in Tsim Sha Tsui. Premier Room, Langham Club, three-Michelin-star T'ang Court and a rooftop pool.
Hotel personally tested by our team, during a stay on invitation
The first real surprise comes the moment you walk through the doors. The Langham's lobby is quite simply magnificent. We're talking about a high-ceilinged space, bathed in warm light, with a floral scenography that changes with the seasons.
An assumed European elegance is felt everywhere. Marble, discreet gilding, contemporary Chinese art woven into the common areas. You understand straight away that you're not sleeping in an anonymous business hotel, but in a place with a genuine visual identity. The decor is polished down to the smallest details, without ever tipping into the ostentatious.
Check-in was done with stunning efficiency. A smile, an iced tea handed over on arrival, and already that feeling of being expected. It's exactly the kind of welcome you're looking for after a twelve-hour flight.
03Our room: the Premier Room with a king-size bed
Our Premier Room was around 32 m², with a neutral-toned decor lifted by discreet Asian touches. The large king-size bed naturally takes centre stage, framed by dark-wood bedside tables and brushed-brass reading lamps.
The bathroom, in pale marble, is a real pleasure. Separate bathtub, walk-in shower, thick bathrobes, comfortable slippers, carefully chosen toiletries. The kind of bathroom you want to linger in before heading out to dinner.
Waiting on the desk were two thoughtful touches that set the tone for the stay: a half-bottle of wine and a signature cocktail prepared for us, along with a handwritten note. We loved that moment. These small attentions, in a hotel of this calibre, make all the difference between an upscale room and a true palace experience.
Working from the room
A few practical notes for those who, like me, work while travelling. The WiFi is fast, stable and free. I was able to take several video calls without a single drop. The desk is deep enough to set up a laptop, a notebook and a coffee. The air conditioning can be set to the exact degree, and the soundproofing is excellent despite the hotel's central location.
The other room categories
The Langham offers several categories, from the Superior Courtyard View rooms to the Director and Chairman suites. To give a price benchmark:
Superior and Premier Rooms: from around €200 to €280 per night depending on the season
Executive Room with Langham Club access: from around €320
Suites: from around €500, climbing much higher for the signature suites
Rates vary a great deal with the season, with appealing lulls in September and June.
04The Langham Club: the real game-changer
We had access to the Langham Club, a private lounge reserved for guests of Executive rooms, suites and certain packages. Honestly, this is what turned a very lovely stay into a memorable one.
The club offers a breakfast served at the table in a hushed setting, midday snacks, a light afternoon tea, and evening drinks with champagne and hors d'oeuvres. The staff there are exceptional. Jonathan, Skye, Alyssa — they know their guests by first name after a single night and bend over backwards to personalise the stay.
If your budget allows, this is the option to aim for. The maths is quick: between breakfast, the afternoon spread and the evening cocktails, you more than recoup the price difference compared with a standard room.
05Eating and drinking at The Langham
The Langham has several dining venues, and each one cultivates its own identity.
Breakfast at Food Gallery
We had our breakfast at Food Gallery, the hotel's buffet restaurant. And it's one of the loveliest surprises of the stay. The buffet is comprehensive without being flashy. You'll find both the Chinese morning tradition (steamed dim sum, congee, noodles, marinated fish, soups), the Western classics (eggs cooked to order, pastries, cold cuts, cheeses), a well-curated vegetarian corner, fresh fruit cut to order and a freshly pressed juice counter.
What strikes you is the space. You never feel crowded, even at peak times. The waiters clear tables without you noticing, the coffee is regularly refreshed, and the quality of the produce is consistent. As a rough guide, the buffet is charged at around €38 per adult if breakfast isn't included in your rate.
Afternoon tea at Palm Court
Palm Court is The Langham's historic lounge, dedicated to afternoon tea. The brand has made it one of its signature rituals around the world, and Hong Kong is one of the best places to experience it.
We had a mid-afternoon tea there, in a hushed atmosphere, with the classic tiered-tray presentation, warm scones, clotted cream, dainty sandwiches and polished pastries. Expect around €55 to €70 per person depending on the set, with tea or champagne. It's a moment, a genuine pause, almost a cultural experience. Book ahead — the 3 p.m. slot goes quickly.
T'ang Court, three Michelin stars
T'ang Court is The Langham's Cantonese restaurant, and it is quite simply exceptional. Three Michelin stars for years now, a dining room inspired by the Tang dynasty, service at the very top. We didn't dine there this time, for lack of time, but we were able to visit and photograph the room. The atmosphere alone, the fine-porcelain table service and the floral arrangements make you want to come back just for that.
For dinner, expect between €130 and €250 per person depending on your choices. The tasting menu built around Peking duck and signature dim sum is, by all accounts, one of the finest Cantonese tables in the world. It's noted for our next trip to Hong Kong.
06The rooftop pool and Chuan Spa
On The Langham's roof, the Chuan Spa and the outdoor pool form a genuine bubble of tranquillity. The pool is heated, open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. depending on the season, with parasols, sun loungers and impeccable towel service.
I spent a long stretch in the late afternoon doing a few lengths, followed by an hour of reading on a lounger with an iced tea brought over at my signal. The contrast with the bustle of the Tsim Sha Tsui streets below is striking.
The gym, set over two floors, is very complete. Cardio, weights, a functional area, changing rooms with a sauna. If you travel while trying to keep up a routine, it's more than enough for serious sessions.
07The experience and the service
This is where The Langham really scores. The service is impeccable, from the bellhop to the floor manager and the Langham Club staff. Everyone has a word, a smile, a thoughtful touch to personalise your stay.
A few details that marked our stay: artisan chocolate and fresh fruit refreshed every day in the room, a birthday card slipped in for Winnie (without us asking), personalised local restaurant recommendations based on what we liked. It's those gestures, accumulated over two nights, that made us leave the hotel with regret.
08Value for money
In Hong Kong, The Langham sits in an appealing bracket. More accessible than the Peninsula or the Mandarin Oriental, and broadly 30% below the average of the five-star hotels in the area according to the comparison sites. For a Premier Room with Langham Club access, you're around €280 to €350 per night outside peak season.
Against its direct competitors (Rosewood Hong Kong, Peninsula, Mandarin Oriental), The Langham offers, in my view, the best balance of service quality, dining quality, location and price. It's a European-style palace in the heart of Kowloon, not a generic luxury hotel. That identity makes all the difference.

The Langham Hong Kong is the perfect hotel for a couples' trip, an upscale business stay or a honeymoon. Families are also very well looked after, with free extra beds for children under 11 and family Langham Club access until 8 p.m.
What we loved :
The location in Tsim Sha Tsui, ideal for exploring Kowloon and the island
The elegance of the lobby and the polished decor throughout the hotel
Service above the average, attentive without being intrusive
The Langham Club, which changes the very nature of the stay
The Food Gallery buffet, comprehensive and never overcrowded
The small in-room touches (wine, cocktail, handwritten note)
The excellent WiFi for working remotely
What we liked a little less :
The Premier Room, pleasant but without a spectacular view (go for a Deluxe City View if the view matters to you)
The lack of an open-air pool bar — the service there is very good, but a counter would be welcome
The pool closing at 9 p.m., a little early after a big day
When to book : September and June offer the best prices, outside festival periods. Avoid Chinese New Year (late January or early February) if you're looking to pay reasonably. To make the most of the pool, aim for April, May, October or November.
To plan your trip to Hong Kong, we warmly recommend a Wise card to pay in Hong Kong dollars with no hidden fees, travel insurance if you're away for several weeks, and installing an eSIM before departure so you stay connected the moment you land.
Enjoy your stay at The Langham. Let us know what you think.
