What to do in Bergen?
Start by strolling through the Bryggen quarter, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with its colourful wooden houses dating from the Hanseatic era. Take the funicular up Mount Fløyen for sweeping views of the city and surrounding fjords. Visit the fish market to taste royal crab and smoked salmon. Don’t miss the KODE museum for its collection of Norwegian art, or the lanes of the Nordnes neighbourhood.
Fjord excursions
Bergen is the ideal starting point for exploring the fjords. The Norway in a Nutshell tour combines a panoramic train, a boat trip on the Nærøyfjord (UNESCO) and a bus ride through spectacular scenery. The Sognefjord, Norway’s longest fjord, and the Hardangerfjord, lined with blossoming orchards in spring, are both accessible as day trips.
