My New Apartment in New York, in the Long Island City Neighbourhood
Discover my incredible apartment in New York on video, specifically in the Long Island City neighbourhood, just steps from Astoria. After the troubles with my previous 6-bedroom in Harlem, we decided to be a bit more demanding.
It was time for a change

As you know, my old apartment was in West Harlem, steps from the 137th City College subway stop, and it was a disaster. Although the apartment itself was nice with good potential, living with Airbnb guests and flatmates who couldn't care less is no fun. That's why we decided to move to Long Island City in early March.
Between Long Island City & Astoria
After yet another disappointment, we decided to visit this apartment on a whim. The photos and listing had all the hallmarks of a scam: overly attractive photos, ridiculously low price etc. But since it was close to Astoria, a neighbourhood we really liked, we decided to give it a chance.

At first glance, Long Island City wasn't the neighbourhood that interested us most, simply because we didn't know it. We were more interested in Williamsburg (very hipster/boho/artsy neighbourhood), but it was unfortunately either over our budget or the apartments were awful.
But this neighbourhood is simply incredible. One of the safest in New York City, it's very quiet with numerous parks, restaurants and bars. With a very family-friendly feel, it's a real pleasure to live here. No (or very few) odd characters, clean subway stations, and a wonderful quality of life. Many luxury buildings are in Long Island City, which is often described as the new Manhattan.
Luxury Building and Dream Apartment in New York
And the apartment turned out to be a real gem. On its own, it's a simple 2-bedroom with a bathroom, equipped kitchen and a tiny living room. Nothing that justifies the $1,550 rent. But it's all the building amenities that make it so special: gym, library, storage room, parking, games room, laundry room, lounge, rooftop..
The rooftop view of Manhattan and the Empire State Building absolutely won us over. And I have to admit, being able to go up there for a beer after work in the evening is pure bliss.
We share the apartment with two Brazilian friends who live in the other room. We get along brilliantly and regularly share meals together. In short, a great atmosphere that will let us enjoy New York until December.
