The more essentials you have within reach during your trip, the less time you'll spend searching and the more comfortable your journey will be. Of course, it's impossible to bring everything. And while travelling, you may need the exact thing you left behind. So use our travel packing list, which covers everything you need.
A significant portion of your travel bag is taken up by clothes and shoes, so be meticulous when choosing what to pack. Don't overpack, but don't forget the essentials either. All the items listed below can be found on GotToShop.
Comfortable shoes and everyday clothes
Comfort should be your top priority. First, put together a complete set of comfortable items, then find room for dressier clothes and shoes. Basics to pack in multiples:
- T-shirts, long sleeves, jumpers: when choosing, pay attention to fabric quality and composition, neutral colours, durability and a relaxed fit.
- Jeans and joggers: several pairs in different styles will come in handy. Knit joggers are the most comfortable, but you can wear jeans just about anywhere: city streets, forest trails, you name it.
- Trainers: the ultimate all-purpose shoe. Comfortable, durable, versatile, iconic. Great for casual walks in warm weather, city strolls and even festive occasions. The only downside: you can't pack too many pairs when space is limited.
- Sandals: a must for a summer trip to warmer climates. Flat sandals are quite comfortable and in extreme heat, your feet will thank you compared to closed shoes.

A handbag or backpack for walking
A bag for day trips should be compact, sturdy and comfortable. You can fit a wallet, phone, wet wipes, a small toiletry pouch and other small essentials. Go for a crossbody model - it's the most comfortable for walking. If you want to carry something larger to fit an umbrella, tablet, camera and so on, a medium-sized urban backpack is your best bet. Backpacks are especially handy because your hands stay free and the weight is evenly distributed across your shoulders.

Warm clothes
Even in the south, even in summer, you can't set off without warm clothing. Evenings, especially in mountainous areas, can be surprisingly brisk. A warm jumper and a cosy cardigan, thick socks and warm trousers should all find a place in your suitcase. Trekking boots are a classic for autumn hikes - it's simply impossible to explore mountains without them. And for a winter trip, you absolutely need membrane outerwear, a hat, a scarf and gloves.
After reading this, most of you will be scratching your heads: is it really possible to fit all this into a travel bag? That's the whole point. Pick from the list what matters most to you, and after a few trips, you'll know exactly what your ideal travel bag should look like.
