In may, the climate in Stavanger is good. The weather is generally undefined, with maximum temperatures around 14°C and about 10 rainy days. Tourist crowds are moderate.
The unmissable highlight is the hike to Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock), a rock platform suspended 604 metres above the Lysefjord. But Stavanger has much more to offer: wander through the old quarter of Gamle Stavanger, embark on a cruise along the Lysefjord, discover the surprising Norwegian Petroleum Museum, and explore the murals from the Nuart street art festival scattered throughout the city.
Stavanger is recognised as the culinary capital of Norway. The Øvre Holmegate quarter (the colourful street) is packed with cafés and restaurants. Don’t miss the Fisketorget (fish market) for fresh produce, and the numerous Michelin-starred restaurants that have cemented the city’s gastronomic reputation.
